Red Hood is one of my favorite characters so this was great since it was his start, but my version had a few spelling errors.

The story that got me into Batman (REALLY into anyway) from the movie, I can't believe I've never actually read it until now. A lot of the animated film is line for line when it matters, and I don't blame them. The writing is solid - snarky, smart, and completely in character.

I love the cameos in this that the film did not have - Bruce's exploration into how others came back from the dead, part of his denial that Jason really is back. I also appreciate how Ra's pool comes into play, it didn't resurrect Jason but did give him his real memories back while messing him up. He really goes through it and I think this does a good job of showing how he's not the same at all. This is really where my knowledge of the modern canon stops, so I'm excited to maybe get into some Red Hood and the Outlaws later on

  • I’ve only read one other comic/graphic novel before (Watchmen for a class), so this is kind of a new genre for me despite the fact that I’ve seen basically every single comic book movie out there (in fact, I recently watched all of the live action Batman movies from 1966 version (shark repellent Batspray!) to 2022’s The Batman).
  • Like, to the point where I was Googling “Batman comics for beginners, help me please.”
  • Gonna be honest, it took me a minute to get into the groove of reading a comic (where to I look? which bubble to I read first?). But I got the hang of it and felt like I really flew through the 300+ pages of Under the Red Hood.
  • The art was incredible and I found my non-artistic ass asking “should I take up sketching?” and the story was action-packed and fast, too.
  • All in all, I really enjoyed this! I love the characters, the stories, the art. I’m definitely excited to keep delving into the comic and graphic novel world and have started some lists of things I want to check out. If you have any favorites or recommendations, let me know!

This book hurts me entire soul but in the best way. Some of the later issues become kind of confusing to me, but other than that, it's just beautiful and so complex, and the relationship between Bruce and Jason is one of the most interesting things about Batman to me. I'm so glad I finally picked this up and willingly inflicted so much pain on myself. It was worth it.
