Reined In
Ryker Ranch, Book 5
By: Kim Loraine
Narrated by: Stella Hunter, Aaron Shedlock

Darlin', I love the Rykers! Every book is so good, and this one is no exception. Jenna and Trent are roommates, happy and love their situation. When a blizzard comes through on Jenna's birthday, a little too much celebration leads them to the bedroom and now things are a little awkward. Both are realizing there are feelings involved, but neither mentions it. When Jenna truly needs him, Trent is there in a heartbeat, but is it enough to finally let them give in? Not only is this a wonderful cowboy romance, but we get to visit with all the Ryker family! These is nothing better than Christmas on the ranch and this family is one I could definitely hang out with. It's an easy, spicy, western with all the buttons I loved to have pushed!

Stella Hunter and Aaron Shedlock are once again bringing this wonderful family to life. I love them together and they just know how to give us the best listen! Hunter becomes Jenna, the stubborn woman she is! I love how she creates Jenna with a vulnerability when it comes to Trent, yet keeps her independent streak strong! Shedlock with his Darlin' just melts me every time. He plays these cowboys like he was born to be one and as Trent, his heart is huge! Love these two!

I loved getting to revisit Ryker Ranch again. Jenna and Trent story was a sweet, swoony, accidental pregnancy romance. They had a fun, flirty friendship and I enjoyed watching that grow into their happy ending. Trent wants more and always has and I loved that he stepped up immediately when he found out about the pregnancy. Jenna is worried that he will feel trapped and denies the feelings she has for him due to her past. I loved that Trent was willing to give her the space she needed but was still there for her when she needed him. Kim really knows how to write those swoony cowboys and I loved this story.

I absolutely adored Stella Hunter and Aaron Shedlock as Jenna and Trent. They brought their banter to life and were able to capture the emotions of the characters. They were the perfect voices for Trent and Jenna.

Jenna and Trent’s story is a sweet friends to lovers that starts with Trent trying to give his bestie one single birthday that isn’t cursed. Jenna has the worst luck with birthdays and this year is no different, when a blizzard comes along, forcing her to cancel her ugly Christmas sweater non-birthday party. Drinking and being snowed in leads the two friends to drop their inhibitions for one amazing night but then things get a bit awkward, especially when she realizes she’s pregnant.

They just wanted some casual fun but now everything has changed. Trent’s all in but Jenna believes he’s only trying to do right by her. A lot of the story is watching her pushing him away, but Trent never gives up. I liked Jenna but she frustrated me at times because they’re supposed to be friends, but she refused to take his words at face value and her reactive nature made them both suffer. Trent is patient and loyal and there’s so much to love. He’s got the gruff cowboy exterior but he’s all heart inside. This was my first book in the series, but I’m going to check out the others because I really enjoyed Ryker Ranch.

Are you ready for another sweet and steamy visit to Ryker Ranch? Kim Loraine has once again tackled one of my least favorite tropes and given it a spin that made me love her story that much more. When Jenna discovers she’s pregnant, Trent decides that he will step up and be the man she needs. I loved what a cinnamon roll Trent was. He’s a tough cowboy who isn’t afraid to throw a punch, but he was so darn sweet with Jenna. And add in again, Stella Hunter and Aaron Shedlock narrating this title, and I couldn’t resist falling for the trope that usually sends me packing.

After months of friendship as roommates, one night a bottle of alcohol causes things to steam up between them and nearly ruins Jenna and Trent’s friendship. And when Jenna sees two pink lines, things really get complicated. The last thing Jenna wants is for Trent to stick around only because of the baby, but what she doesn’t know is that friendship wasn’t what he wanted all along. She’s had his heart for a long time, and Trent wants to find a way to keep Jenna forever.

This story was so sweet, I might need a mafia hit after this. LOL. But seriously, I adored this sweet story of friends becoming so much more. Trent is extremely supportive, kind, and an all around good guy who just wants to take care of Jenna. Jenna has never known a man that would stick around in her whole life, and has deep insecurities about being a burden. She refuses a life without love and I love that Trent never gave up on showing her that he was what she needed. This story had so many good feels and is the perfect story to cozy up with.

Sweet and swoon worthy is the very best way to describe this story. I love Jenna and Trent together. And Trent just stole my heart. This is full of emotion and heart. I loved returning to Ryker Ranch

The narration for this book was excellent and I liked the characters, but the conflict keeping them apart felt flimsy and needlessly drawn out. It was hard to believe that two people who were so strongly attracted to each other would be able to stay apart so long, especially considering they were living in the same house from the beginning of the book. There were big time jumps—necessary to get through the entire length of a pregnancy—during which I guess their relationship was stagnant and did not develop or deepen at all. The eventual conflict with the baby daddy ex felt rushed, with some major plot developments dropped in as exposition rather than letting readers discover it along with the characters. Overall, this was enjoyable enough to spend a few hours listening but I doubt I’ll ever re-read it.
