Strong start for this series, though it is a bit light on the fantasy elements for me so far. More an alternate history style story with hints at mysticism but still very enjoyable and fun. Rah and Miko are favorites but all three main POV characters are unique and have independent, strong voices. I look forward to the sequel.

5 stars. Really enjoyed this one.

I like to think that I was right, there is a ton of potential in this story and on my re-read a bumped it up a whole star!
I still struggled with one character in particular; the others were a ton of fun. I think the story is not fully fleshed out either; it is a nice plot yet the first 60% changes rapidly without a whole lot of explanation.
I would like to immediately jump onto book 2; I need to read another book and then my week will be dedicated to this story!

I really hate to give such a low score to a book that is so popular. I promise to re-read it when I get access to book #2 of the series.
I might have just been reading too many things at the same time and not paid enough attention. Yet it really did not grip me at all. I struggled to read this relatively short book. I also did not really connect with most of the characters. I loved Cassandra though.

✔️3rd person, multi-POV
✔️Compelling women MC
✔️A woman assassin who can hear the voice of the dead
✔️The looming threat of war

We ride the storm follows a very compelling cast of characters. In this fantasy novel there are three POV characters you follow, two women and one man. This books weakness was the man’s POV. I found his story arc a little boring, and just wanted to get to the other bits of the story. I think his character has promise, I just found I didn’t care about him at all. I will also caution there is one SA scene that I found completely unnecessary to the plot, which I hate. The two women had very compelling arcs. They were strong, they could fight, and they took care of their own destinies. We didn’t learn much about the magic, and I’m really hoping the next books delve more into that as the little tidbits we got were enough to pique my interest. Overall this was a decent start to a fantasy series!
