i was disappointed in this. it isnt nearly as well written as the trilogy. the writing is a bit stilited and overly florid at the same time. the plot just wasnt there for me either. it could have been told in less than 1/3 of what we got, and there was a bunch of random side happenings that had nothing to do with anything but be distracting. the relationships between the characters felt flat and underdeveloped.
i liked the remake of Bellavalten as a consentual kingdom, the premise is a good one, the execution just didnt work.

A couple of weeks ago I received ‘Beauty’s Kingdom’. I never heard of this author or this book before so I was really curious what this book would be about. This book is the fourth book in the Sleeping Beauty series, but can be read as a standalone.

Well, this is a hard review for me to write. I don’t know really where to begin. I don’t come across many books that I didn’t really like but this book was unfortunately one of them. I haven’t read the first three books in the series so I can’t say if the previous books are any good. But this book was just not it for me. It’s an erotic novel. And although I don’t mind reading erotic romance novels, and even enjoy some of them.. this book misses the romance and is only based on the erotic side. That is my opinion at least. There are pleasure slaves, there’s punishment and whipping and I just felt horrible while reading this book, so I quit reading when I was half way true. I just couldn’t continue any more. The story just didn’t get to me.

Although I love the concept of a story which is based on a fairytale, just like this one is based on Sleeping Beauty, this was just not a fun story for me. I didn’t like the characters at all and I found the idea of pleasure slaves just horrible.
I know there are many fans of Anne Rice that read her erotic series, but this just wasn’t the story for me.

Anne Rice’s writing style is good and I can see she is a good writer but honestly I wouldn’t recommend this book. Especially if you’re not into erotic novels. I feel sad to have to write this about a book, but since I promised an honest review.. here it is.

Read this trilogy years ago. Had the chance to download an advance copy of this one and was curious enough to do so. I'll let you know. Meh. I guess I don't care anymore.

This book was trash and not in the good sense. I loved the previous books in this series and was so excited to get my hands on this one. It's overly full of descriptive text about bells, straps, boots, and hair accessories, but falls flat on the descriptions during the scenes that need it. The first three books in this series were written years ago, and the smut was descriptive and made you clench your knees together. She lost her touch with this book, it was boring and I almost couldn't finish it. Characters I used to love just lost their sheen, and the new characters weren't likable at all.

I read the first 3 Beauty books back in college. At the time, I thought it was good stuff back then. It was a good read and I don't regret spending the time on it, but it's not all that good. There is little plot. It just speaks over life in the kingdom from different people's perspectives. It's not exciting except for the sex and after 100 pages, that gets old.

Pretty decent sequel. I like the plot, this one had much more of a central story than the other novels did.

What can I say?

Beauty’s Kingdom wasn’t as great a read as the first three books. It lacked the heart of the trilogy. The first three books took me less than three days to read. They were exciting. Begging to be finished. This book took me a few days to get through. I didn’t want to pick it. It was a forced read.

Yes! Thank you Anne Rice for combining your masterful writing with a recreation of forced pleasure slavery to optional BDSM slave role-play. The visual imagery is stunning and this world was far less rape and for more lust.

Quite good. It wasn't as sexual as the first three books in the "trilogy" were. It focused more on specific characters and stories than just being erotic, bawdy, and sexual.
