Good book! She says she is a sixth grader but seems almost like eighth grader. The book is very emotional and deep but I liked it. I would say if you are younger than 12 it might be harder for you to understand.

Fantstic emotional read! Completely relatable for children with parents who struggle with alcoholism. Everyone thinks their parents are crazy and they might catch their crazy. But for Sarah that fear is very real with an alcoholic father and a mother who drowned her brother and tried to drown her. Sarah is alone and upset and through thris coming of age story she finds her voice and courage. Lovely book!!

Love, love, love this book! Sarah's love of words, her highlighting the dictionary, and her letters to Atticus Finch make me wish she was my friend.

Sarah Nelson is an 11 year-old living in garland, texas with her dad. Like most 11 year-olds, she wants to fit in and be excepted. Unfortunately she is plagued by the notoriety surrounding her mother and the instability that causes in her housing situation. I loved the literal use of language in this book. Mean kids become "darts" because their words are sharp and painful. Sarah has also identfied several "trouble" words she can't use for fear of upsetting her father. This story looks at the difficulties experienced by one family as they struggle to deal with mental health issues.

New CT 2017 nutmeg nominee. Read it before it was announced and just didn't find this title that great. Some sensational stories about her mother. Many loose ends that didn't feel truthfully resolved.

This was not my favorite book. It was really confusing and I hardly saw any character growth. Mostly I liked the characters but I did not enjoy the plot.

The topic was very promising, but I expected more. Sarah doesn't end up getting any answers, but somehow things turn out good at the end for no reason.
Nice reading anyway.
