A couple of these stories were creepy but most weren’t very eerie. Considering these were written for upper middle school kids I think they miss the mark

This collection of short stories contains everything from creepy to bizarre. These stories feature everything from monsters and ghosts all the way to oatmeal and an ice cream cone. You never know what to expect in these fun, spooky middle grade stories.

I've never really enjoyed scary stories, but these were super fun and just the right amount of spooky for me! This is something that I would have had fun reading around Halloween when I was in middle school, so I would definitely recommend this for younger readers.

Trigger/Content Warnings: Maybe just read this before letting your kids, it is all age appropriate, but you know what scares your kids.

My favorite type of children's horror is "child is a jerk resulting in supernatural repercussions" and this book certainly has plenty of those stories.
I always recommend kids horror to everyone, it's spooky without being too scary and it gets across an important message everyone needs to hear: don't be a jerk, or the ghouls will get you.

I read this on a quiet, rainy fall morning at the library. It only took an hour. Just as creepy as the first, with very spooky illustrations.

R.L. Stine was a bit after my time, so I wasn't sure what to expect from a collection of spooky stories aimed at middle-schoolers. Turns out, they're a lot of fun! While some of the tales center around familiar frights—clowns, dolls, and things that go bump in the night—others turn less obvious subjects (oatmeal, ice cream, bed pillows) spooky. As with all short story collections, some of the selections are more clever and entertaining than others. Personally, I most enjoyed "The Substitute" and "Scrabbled." While younger/more sensitive readers may want to steer clear of ONLY IF YOU DARE, all in all, the book offers an easy, enjoyable reading experience that chills without getting too graphic or gory (with the maybe exception of "My Hand. Right There," which is a *little* gruesome).

If I could, I would give this book 3 1/2 stars; since I can't, I'm rounding up.

Surprisingly creepy. Reminded me of Scary Stories a little bit, and the artwork was really good.

I was hoping for something a tad bit more mature, but was still pleasantly surprised with what could have been written by the great R.L. Stine. Very Goosebumps-esque. I really liked the Scrabble story, and my 7th graders will enjoy this.

A compilation of spooky YA stories.
The book was very well written and did it's job! This is just not my genre. But I enjoyed the writing and the stories were very interesting. I am impressed by the authors ability to spook in such a modern way.
