What I Liked
*auggie an incredibly humorous, relatable, and quirky narrator
*enjoyed the dialogue and banter between characters
*the story is derivative but auggie helps keep it from feeling too stale
*good, vampiric fun
What I Didn’t Like As Much
*secondary characters all two-dimensional (especially the BFF and a helpful classmate)
*the romantic interests don’t quite reach same level of believability as auggie (flat but have
interesting dynamic with one another at least)
*putters along in some places

A delightfully refreshing vampire romp toward the apocalypse, full of sass, lies, and kissing. The Fell of Dark has strong Buffy vibes but with less angst(but not none), less vampire-y stereotypes, and more awkward(in the good way). I enjoyed it immensely! My only sadness is that we got very little of Adriana who seems fun. With any luck we'll get a follow up book one of these days!

Fun book about vampires, witches, and a big end of the world style prophecy. As the author says: what if vampires, but gay? And that was a great choice.
Admittedly the biggest detractor for me is because of how uncomfy it feels for the main character to be 16. I know with any vampire thing obviously the vampires will be way older than humans but I'd appreciate if the humans were at least not like, minors. If I was 16 myself while reading this it wouldn't bother me at all, I know that, but as an adult it feels weird for sure.

The beginning and the end had kind of some fun bits, but it lost me in the middle and I almost gave up. Its sadly just pretty badly written. The characters are not very well rounded -- and there's something very icky to me about a vampire from the 1500s who even admits he is hundres of years old kisses a 16 Yr old -- and the plot is kind of all over the place. Also far too much "tell" instead of "show".
The concept isn't bad, and the only reason I kept reading when I was about to give up was the idea of an environmentalist vampire and this quote:
"You're poisoning your own planet! This dumb blue ball floating around the milky way has the precise and inexpressibly rare conditions to Foster life, and mortals are doing everything they can to destroy it."
Like, that is valid. But a part from some moments like that I wouldn't really say its worth reading.

“The Fell of Dark” By Caleb Roehrig
📕 Edition: Audiobook
This book was fangtastic! 🦇📚 It was fun and fast-paced story that combined all the elements of a classic vampire tale with a modern, LGBTQ+ twist. 🏳️🌈
August Pfeiffer is a relatable protagonist with a strong aversion to algebra and an even stronger aversion to living in a vampire-infested town.
I was all about the throuple, though very short lived. It added a unique layer to the typical vampire narrative. 🧛♂️🧑🏻🧛♂️ Auggie's interactions with the mysterious and alluring vampire boy and his unexpected involvement in a battle against an ancient, malevolent power kept me engaged from start to finish.
Caleb Roehrig's writing style is fun and filled with witty banter, making it impossible to put the book down. The pacing is superb, and the plot twists keep you guessing.
