Is suffering the meaning of life? Read this book, and you still won't know the answer. But you sure will have thought about it a lot. Dark, existential, disturbing, absurdist, and extremely graphic; I actually really enjoyed this book as a whole. This is the first one of his books I've ever read. His writing style is extremely evocative, and I was hooked right from the beginning, even though the pace was fairly slow. Reading this felt like watching a giant, intricate and beautiful puzzle come together, only to realize it's an image of some guy mooning you. But in a good way? Hard to explain, but worth the experience if you can stomach it.

I know that a lot of people don't love this book as much as his others, but it's one of my favorites alongside Choke and Snuff. We follow 7 characters telling their stories along with the people they are, well....staying with. Things get dark and crazy very fast and there's a couple of twists that I personally didn't expect. If you're new to Chuck Palahniuk or even if you already love his writing and you like  dark, disgusting things, and commentaries on society, I highly recommend this book.

Bored. Saint Gut-Free's story was the only one that was even remotely "gut-churning," the rest of them were easily tolerated. Messed-up? Sure. But overall they weren't bad enough to keep me interested.

I think that Chuck Palahniuk reels you in with the first story and then it goes downhill from there. At first I thought it was really boring, didn't really understand where it was going, and then I got to Coras story.
Personally, I don't think you can write about something like that for a grossed out reaction. It comes off as insensitive and slightly concerning. Gore has a limit and I think that limit is kids. Don't write about kids dude, that's super weird.
