3.5 This book was just okay. I thought that the relationship between our main characters could have used more development, but I did like it. I enjoyed the themes of wishes versus reality, especially as related to Penelope’s thoughts about Colin. Honestly though, I thought he was too mean to her for no good reason. And that could have been okay if he had apologized, but he never did, and he never really even felt bad about that?? He specifically and purposefully tried to make Pen feel bad, that’s not an okay thing to do, angry or not! That side of him never felt resolved to me, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Colin did have some swoon worthy speeches though, and Penelope was a lot of fun to read. I also wasn’t a fan of how the narration jumped between Penelope and Colin’s heads mid-scene. It was confusing and a little grating. Overall, I think the show may just do it better?

I read this book in a day. It was more of Penelope’s story than Colin’s, and for that I am very grateful. Penelope is the “glue” that holds the whole series together.

Well, this was interesting very different to the direction the show is going based on the trailer, but I actually don't mind it.

Firstly, there is so much lady Danbury in this book, and I love that, i hope we get to see her connect with Penelope in the show, too. I really enjoyed Penelope's POV, and it was nice to see her more confident side as well as her friendship with eloise.

With the romance, I liked that they connected through writing and that he always makes a point to reassure her when she begins to doubt herself. I also enjoyed colins moment with daphne when he asks about love, it was very sweet.

There were a couple of issues for me. I'm not sure why it's made out that the bridgerton men are among the best in the ton, and then in their book, they behave like assholes to their SO but Colin does it on occasion too. I do think that him suddenly liking her after 12 years came about with less development than I would have liked, but sometimes it happens.
