Cocktails for Three is about three friends who work at the same magazine and meet for cocktails on the first of every month.

The premise of this book is good, however, it is poorly written. About every second or third page the focus switches characters; it made it difficult to really get into the plot lines. The whole story felt rather blah. The novel lacks a hook to make you want to keep reading, and the plot is fairly predictable. None of the characters were particularly likeable.

A good fun read, enjoyed it.
You won't be sorry if you read this book, go for it.

Stupid Candice and more foolish Roxanne, a doubtful Maggie and a treacherous Heather.
A good for nothing cocktail club and a mildly good setup but awfully crafted story we could sniff after few pages itself.

The book was ok. I wanted something easy to read while on vacation and as a buffer from some of the deeper, more intense books I’ve been reading. I probably would have liked this book when I was a teenager.

I am a huge fan of the shopaholic books (written as Sophie Kinsella). This really paled in comparison to those books. It was a quick read (I say that about everything when I'm on vacation), but I don't think I'll be buying anymore of Madeleine Wickham's books. It says it's wickedly funny on the front cover. I didn't find it funny at all. Kind of pathetic, actually. Looking forward to the next shopaholic book that comes along, though.

Generally I like Wickham/Kinsella's books, because they are chick lit by someone who clearly has read other books, and I appreciate that. But this book was completely unlikeable, both in the story and in the characters. Alcoholic pregnant women are tacky and should not succeed in life. The conflicts are barely bubbling to the surface when they get resolved. I had a huge problem with how arrogant all of the characters was. This book was a big failure. Even for being an in-bed-sick-with-the-flu read, it was no good.

I’ve tried twice now to listen to this book, but DESPISE at least two of the characters so can’t bear to listen any more. The rest of the story is good, as far as I got. The narrator is also good.
