Why aren't Steve Lowe and Alan McArthur more famous? Like, Charlie Brooker famous? This is a dictionary of the horrible things in UK during the mid-2000s, some of them, unfortunately, still going on today. It will make you think twice before stepping into a Wetherspoons again; and if you don't already hate the Daily Mail, you will.

Definitely one of, if not the, most hilarious book i have ever read. The cynicism with which he abuses a huge amount of things within Britain (and occasionally elsewhere) seems to me at least, to be delivered so well ensures its place in my British humour classics shelf. Admittedly there are some insults and adjectives that are somewhat overused, and certain topics that I didn't really understand but I'm sure if I were a little older the humour would be slightly more potent.

Not that funny; and too dependent on castigating conservatives and Christians and any other perceived dimwits for yucks. I guess everything is shit, including this book.

An ok book that made me laugh in places, however is also a little boring as well. Good for when you are angry at the world though.

I really can't get into this book, tried my best but decided to let it travel to someone else.

Lost patience with book in the first few pages, but managed to read through to page 166 before I decided that this book should be renamed "Is it just me or is everything that this writer says in this book, shit"?

Literally there's about 3 swear words in every sentence here... a book supposedly of the humor genre, I think not, there's more to humor than excessive profanity.

1.5-2 stars.
Mmmmeh. Not great. At all. If you're not British, you won't get half of the references, that's the problem. I skipped entire pages cause there's just no point when you have no idea who/what they're ranting about. Also as it's been written over 10 years ago now, most of the stuff is outdated.
And those guys seem so bitter, I wonder if they're still alive. Did they end their life after publishing this book ? Joking. Hhh
Looks like the only thing they forgot to add that is shit is this book. (I had to do this one. Sorry. Hhh)

They should not market this book as being "Americanized" because it was anything but. There were maybe 3 entries that made me chuckle. Everything else I ended up skimming through just to get to the next entry because I either didn't care, didn't agree, or didn't understand (UK references).

Apparently there's a new American edition of Is It Just Me or is Everything Shit? by Steve Lowe. Brendan Hay of The Daily Show collaborated on the Americanization of this encyclopedia of all things shit. Although I'm an American and an active book blogger, I apparently missed the memo on this new edition.

By strange book karma I got a copy of the original British edition through BookCrossing and that's the edition I read. So when reading my review please keep in mind I am reviewing an older and different book. For your convenience, I am providing links to reviews of the 2009 American edition.

Is it Just Me or is Everything Shit is an encyclopedia of whinging on the worst pieces of modern culture: it's excesses, it's celebrities, government, politicians, food and so forth. As it is a critique of British (for the most part) pop culture as it was in 2005 the biting humor by 2010 has lost a few teeth.

My two biggest problems with the book stem from just how dated much of it felt and the constant whining from the author. Yes I got the jokes and the references and the slang but after about letter F or G, I stopped caring.

I don't think the Daily Show revisions will make the book any better. If you've read both versions, let me know in the comments how they compare.
