Ahhh, this was so cute. So many of my favourite tropes: only one bed, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, a couple of idiots pining after each other. This is exactly the kind of story I mean when I say ‘no plot, just vibes’ and Cat Sebastian is a master at it. It was so warm and soft and tender and I just adored every page. I loved reading these two fall in love on their road trip and find a place to belong with one another. It was lovely to see prickly Caleb open up to Peter and allow himself to be vulnerable without losing his grumpiness. And Peter was just the perfect pairing for Caleb, so kind and understanding and giving. It’s understandable how Caleb’s dislike quickly turned into wanting to protect him at all costs.

I really adored the characters in this one! Everything felt so organic and lovely and I really enjoyed it. Much better than the first one in this series. as I felt there was a lot more development of the characters.

i was so looking forward to this release and cat sebastian does not disappoint! this is the second book in THE CABOTS and i really enjoyed TOMMY CABOT WAS HERE, but PETER CABOT GETS LOST is by far my favorite of the series so far.
there's barely much of a plot, just two vague acquaintances driving to la from cambridge in 1960, learning about and starting to find themselves, and falling in love along the way. after graduating from harvard, peter is running away from his politically influential and wealthy family who sees no worth in him and caleb is off to start a life on his own to prove that he can take care of himself.
one of the things i love about sebastian's work is that she explicitly covers and works through aspects of inherent inequalities as they're relevant for her couples. peter is from a famous family in massachusettes and his father is currently running for president (and is implied to have a high likelihood of winning. my us president knowledge is virtually non-existent but i think the cabots are supposed to be fictionalized kennedys?), while caleb is poor and from essentially nowhere, tennessee. there is a very clear power imbalance that both characters are aware of and part of the development of their relationship is how they find a way that works so they are both happy and on equal footing in a realistic way.
this had just enough angst with loveable characters, and a very sweet romance. no plot, just vibes and pining.
