Book was promising, but ultimately felt extremely rushed. Actual book ends at 70%.

4 roguish stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Much better than the first book but not as great as I hoped. Looking forward to Julian Greycourt’s book and his relationship with Lady Elspeth de Moray.

I thought I was going to dislike the heroine but she changed her stuck up tune quickly.

This was disappointing. The romance was boring, I didnt like Gideon, nothing made sense. I am kinda looking forward to reading about Julian because it seems enemies to lovers but tbh I didnt like him in this book so I am not so happy about it.

Deadly Dull

DNF 35%. No rating.
My library loan expired and I could not even muster up the energy to click the renew button.
Nothing in this book was interesting and the characters and story were a pale replica of Hoyt’s better works. I found the first book in this series middling, but this one was tedious.

Blue-blooded Messalina is saving her pin money. She's planning a secret trip to America with her younger sister—to escape the grip of their heartless uncle the duke.

But her uncle upends her plans. He forces her to marry Gideon, whom he plucked from St. Giles to do his bidding and hide his crimes. Gideon knows Messalina doesn't want him, but he's willing to bargain with her to secure her consent.

In one month, Messalina will have the funds to sail to freedom. But will Gideon's love convince her to stay?

This is another masterful historical romance from Elizabeth Hoyt. It's a "Taming of the Shrew" type love story between a hero and heroine who are tough on the outside and fiercely guard their hearts. If you like enemies to lovers stories, don't miss this one.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

why is the epilogue a whole ass allegory about them being animals like huhhhhhh (im on this whole thing through an audiobook so im hella confused) when they mentioned the fox while in the story i was like ?? is this a fantasy book or historical or both im so confused but then i didnt fight it because technically anything can happen

anyways this book was alright. i thought that the characters were well developed and i appreciated her growing sympathy for those below her social class. when its like rich girl poor boy or vv, most plots are written in a way where rich person marries into the poor person and adopts the lifestyle in a way where it still seems like they didnt lose anything and theyre still rich regardless?? not that he was super poor but ykwim. plot wise the first half of like their meeting, and their interactions as strange newlyweds was enjoyable but it kind of got so condensed in the end (like what other ppl were saying in their reviews). everything suddenly wasnt as complex as the first half made it out to be and it was like all falling into pieces regardless of whether the puzzle fit or not. like 60-75% of it was thought through and then in the last quarter everything was just put in and it wasnt very seamless. though, still an okay read but i think i wouldnt have finished it if i was physically reading it
