Humour in books is so hard to do. This definitely won't work for everyone, but it really worked for me.
But, this entire review has to be dedicated to the most incredible of audiobook narrators, Luke Daniels. Every single character had a unique, easy to discern voice, and he flipped back and forth like nobody's business. Characters that felt only 60% realized on page became 110% realized because of his narration. The parrot voice is a particular favourite of mine.
There are so many jokes in this that I'm sure I didn't catch them all (shout out to that one chapter that was just a really long period joke), but the charm and fun are evident. So glad I finally got around to this.

This is a great series of twisted fairy tales.

Very funny. Enjoyable through all the bad puns and pirate adventures.

I adored this book for the most part. It read like a dnd campaign with a lot of silliness. In the beginning I was completely obsessed with it, the characters, and the puns. I loved seeing the character’s arcs reach resolutions - but somewhere towards the last 70 pages I lost a bit of interest and I can’t really explain why. If you want some comedic relief in between rough and sad books, this would be great! I’m curious about the previous 2 books (as I was told you can read it as a standalone) since I heard they were better.

If you like extended scenes riffing on other media (in this case we visit Bogtorts and witness a character reject being sorted, by the Sifting Scarf, into houses Wormidor, Roachcraw, Slithertick, and Mosquitopuff) or just random chunks of dialogue from other media (I caught Star Wars and The Princess Bride but who knows what else there is that I missed) inserted into the story for no apparent reason then perhaps this is the story for you! The other half of the story is jokes along the lines of having to sail through the "Myn Seas" (say it out loud) where there are great sea serpents that can only be defeated with "tampoons" fired out of canons called "Aunt Flo". So if that sounds fun to you I wish you all the best. It wasn't for me.

This was fun! There are a lot of puns, and the story plays around with several fairytale tropes: princess in a tower, pirate ship, chosen one..., and it plays with them all well.

This is the third installment in the Tales of Pell, and it contributed pretty well. Like the first two books, Kill the Farm Boy and No Country for Old Gnomes, it follows an assortment of characters: Morgan, the princess, Vic, a centaur trying to undo some magic, Tempest, a dryad who wants to be the first dryad lawyer, and Alobartalus, who wants to meet the Sn'archivist (side note, that is a perfect name for an archivist in a snarky series). The characters were funny and lovable, and it was also fun to see the return of old favorites like Poltro.

If you enjoy Shrek, Monty Python, Stardust, or The Princess Bride, you'll probably like The Princess Beard.
