Of all the books in the GODS AND MORTALS collection, I thought I'd passed the worst one. Not true. This was actually kind of painful to read. I very nearly skipped the whole thing. The characters were annoying idiots. Even the side characters did made me roll my eyes. "Oh, there's a colossal threat that could eradicate us all, but one person rookie survived so clearly we need to sit on our asses and let her save us all when she clearly has no idea what she's doing? Genius! Why didn't I think of that?" Give me a break. The dialogue was cringe-inducing. NOBODY TALKS LIKE THAT. Sorry, you didn't appreciate the caps lock? Me neither. There are block capitals everywhere, often mixed with italicized sentences. If you thought that was annoying, just wait until you check out all the ellipses. EVERYWHERE... ALL... THE... TIME... I kind of felt like I was reading something from a circus, complete with talking monkeys and birds. Yeah. I know. I wouldn't have minded the monkeys, if every encounter with them didn't have a second where they scratched their ass. Way to make my sympathize with them. Oh, and speaking of sympathizing, it's never smart to refer to a child as an "it" when he's clearly a "boy," and if he's half human, you don't get to name him. God, this book was awful. The more I think about it, the more I dislike it. The only reason I rated it at all was because I was interested in the concept of the world, and not even that was given the credit it deserved. Skip this one.

Marked is kind of hard to write a review for. I feel so unsure of how I should rate it or write it.. since I've already read 4 books into this series. Okay, so the first book is pretty interesting. It could have been more amazing than it was..if the main character wasn't so annoying.

Okay, so Kara, THE MC, was just an okay kind of character. She did nothing for me. Yes, she was funny and caring.. but that's about it. Then there's David, who was an asshole. I wanted to punch him so many times.. or stab him. I didn't care for their "romance" because I wanted David to die. I swear, ANY other guy in this book would've been a better romance interest. I kept praying to god that David was just a fluke. HECK, I even started plotting his death.

Other than that, I guess I can accept Kara as an Mc because she didn't magically become a super bad ass - which typically happens in books. I just wish someone would have given her amnesia or something so that she didn't remember who David was. Then there was the PERFECT villain ever created (for this series). I really liked and enjoyed that character. Even though I already read books 1-4.. can I still say that I hope my review for the second book will be better?

This book could have been episode in the TV show "Charmed". Although I was a fan of "Charmed", I was not a fan of this book. It was a little to predictable for my liking.

I personally didn't like this book at all, so much I couldn't even finish it. I thought it was going to be good being a story about angels but it was just not the story for me.

This book feels like the first draft of an idea. It's badly in need of a good editor and some serious thought. I bought it as a trilogy and managed to get through this book and one chapter of the second.

Some of the ideas are original and great - monkeys who operate the lifts and different levels of 'heaven' or whatever it's referred to - I really enjoy that. But the thing is, the tense moments become lost due to the fact there are no non-tense moments... there needs to be fluctuation between the missions they go on and the time they spend in heaven. I felt thoroughly underwhelmed because there was no climax - it was all the same note. I would've enjoyed some quirky exploration of the other levels, perhaps meeting some strange characters. Something to break up each mission. If I died and was transported to this place, I'd want to join the demons to be honest. The angels snap you up, tell you to fight for them with no reason as to why, send you on suicidal missions and just expect you to want to be there? And to top it all off you're surrounded by disgusting apes? I want to see angel children running around, a place that makes the protagonist happy to fight for them. Not some militant people who just expect it. The place is thoroughly unlikeable as a reader and makes it difficult to want to read on and involve myself in a world.

All in all it had the potential to be a great story but lacked the basic structure for an enjoyable book for me. There was also nothing a reader could relate to, no deep human emotion that allowed me to connect to the main character. Yes, she fancies this hot guy for some reason who seems to be a complete tool, but there's no sense of losing who she was when she died, no missing the human part of her. She wasn't phased enough by it. I'd read this again if it went through a serious edit though. It has potential to be great.
