This was an interesting one for me! It took a little time to get into it but once I did it was hard to put it down! Jimenez has created an interesting story with complications on both romantic leads' parts and has clearly worked hard to understand and reflect the truths of domestic abuse. I loved the town of Wakan, it's cast of characters, and the spark of magic there.

All that being said, I'm not a fan of miscommunication/bad communication and there's a lot of it in this book.
Alexis keeps so much from Daniel in a clearly self-protective move, however it's frustrating as all get out and, honestly problematic given both their age, class, and education diferences - it comes across as patronizing and infantilizing the way she withholds information and makes decisions for him in the relationship without allowing him a voice
.

The mounting what's-going-to-happen tension (or rather, because it's a romance novel, when will the heavily foreshadowed HEA happen - no shade, I love a HEA!) also  goes on for quite a long time only for the climax to immediately plunge into an
accelerated romance (married within 7 months and already pregnant *le sigh*)
epilogue. Not a fan of that at all.

All in all, it was entertaining and a page turner for sure.

7/10 would recommend

This book is serviceable, but probably only because I also read AO3 and KU, so basic grammar and editing are a baseline 2 for me. It started out well, I really only started listening to it because I had bought Just For the Summer and heard I should go in order. I don't think I can handle doing Yours Truly in the middle, but I'll still try JFTS since I have it. It started out well, the premise was cute and the characters seemed fun but they just droned on and on about the same issue. It was I think going for reflective and contemplative but there are only so many times you can make the same point! Also the FMC was pretty irritating, which in turn doesn't allow me to suspend my disbelief, so then I felt she was irritating and irrational. The very horrible DV and emotional abuse storylines were well handled though, she knows her stuff there and I appreciated it.

This book was just magical. I loved every second. It tackles tough issues with grace and sensitivity, which is so rare. And it still remained cute and loving at the same time. 10 million stars.
