“Perdita” by Faith Gardner

QOTD: Do you believe in ghosts? Have you seen one?

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of the Jolvix Epiaodes. As I have binge read all of them, I decided to give her older books a try. Just to get more.

Synopsis:
Arielle is  sixteen. Death is not unknown to her, her older brother drowned when she was six. She is also no stranger to ghosts and ghost stories. Unlike her older sister Casey.
Just before Casey leaves for college, her once best friend Perdita (I think this means “lost” in Spanish) dies.
Arielle starts to see a “skeleton girl”. Is it real or is she beginning to lose her mind? What really happened to Perdita?

My opinion:
The writing is on point, like usually. She writes in a fresh, easy way that draws you in. It’s very relatable. I always loved that about her books.

I knew this was going to be different fro the Jolvix Episodes. This was more YA. I did not mind, I usually do. Faith vacant write a shopping list and I will enjoy it.

I could relate to Arielle. I felt for her, when her best friend started to date and she was left all alone. I know the feeling. This was so relatable to me. The character development is done so well.

I love the paranormal elements. I kind of wish I’d have more experience with that. I do believe that spirits cross over at some point. I seem to pick a lot of novels around that trope lately…

The only real beef I had with this book was the abusive relationship Chloe found herself in. Ariel let did. not like it, but I think she never really took a stand. If nothing helped, she could have asked her mother - a psychologist- for help 🤷‍♀️

But all in all, a very enjoyable read!

Great characters, edgy/creepy feel, teeters between psychological thriller/ghost story/mystery without tipping solidly into any of those categories, but a rather abrupt ending. Borrow rather than buy.
