A really unique memoir but not one I can safely recommend to my friends.

I'm interested in how different art styles depict different ways the author sees the world with time. Conversations with her younger selves, search for meaning as an artist. A lot was explored and it was funny but SO dark

*** Thank you NetGalley and Image Comics for the arc in exchange for an honest review! I’m incredibly grateful! ***

Interesting. Shocking. Relatable. Dark. Funny. Brilliant!

Stylistically: this is one of the best graphic novels I’d had the pleasure of reading. Content-wise: I feel seen.

Reviewing this fully won’t even do it justice. Just read it!

CW: Depression, Suicide

This book offers a really raw insight into the mind of someone navigating a depressive episode over the six months that she creates this comic. In the story we follow the highs and lows that can occur around depression. Zoe the author is very self aware and reflects both on her current experience with depression and those from her past.

I think this is a great book for those looking to understand the mind of someone going through depression. The story is not graphic and I honestly really appreciated it's rawness and authenticity. However if you are someone like myself who has experienced depression it can be quite triggering. So maybe give this one a pass or make sure you are in a good headspace, have a good support system and a good self care routine to support you.

I really enjoyed the non-traditional structure of this story there really is no arc we are just following her journey. I'm also a big fan of the chosen art style(s) that change at different moments.

I'm finding it harder and harder to rate memoirs. There's a lot to think about here, a lot of it tough and confronting, but honest, too. I'd caution readers with suicidal thoughts to approach this one carefully.

One of those books that you saw and immediately knew that you have to read. Right away.

This book is unfortunately very relata-[GUNSHOT]

Anyway. The art is incredible. The story is raw and honest - well, as honest as one believe. I know the feeling of darkness and the need to create something out of it to justify its existence. The words I wrote during those times would always be the most honest I could ever be.

Doesn’t make it feel any less like a performance.

Sorry to the author - I didn’t read this while I was in a good space. But I was in the void with you. And it was comforting indeed.

It is lonely at the centre of the earth. The creation born from it can be magnificent. It is lonely, and it is comfortable. Easy.

You have to want something else. We have to.
