I wish Eadlyn's books were one. This one makes the story way more emotionally cohesive. The ending felt rushed but I was overall happy with the outcome. I only wish we got to see more in the epilogue of the future state -- how all the boys who weren't selected were doing and their interactions with the family.

This was a good enough ending for the series. To be completely honest I wasn't entirely blown away, but I wasn't disappointed either. I was just kind of "meh, that's cool" about it. Eadlyn finally stopped annoying me around halfway through. But I started to feel neutral about the Selection guys and didn't really have a preference about who I wanted to win, until I realized who would actually win. Then I was super, super happy about it. Happier than I really expected to be. Good choice, Eadlyn. Good choice.

I wasn't surprised by a few of the "twists", however, one bombshell literally at the very end of the book should have been mentioned wayyyyyy earlier. It just felt strange that this little bit of important information was pushed on us at the very last second, like an afterthought. That one was unexpected and would have been awesome had it been laid out earlier. Everything else was good.

It frustrates me a bit that huge decisions in their government are made without really thinking things through, though. I know it's just a fun book and all, but come on now. You seriously can't just say, "oh, I think I will do this today because that feels right." You have to at least have a plan and some type of form you have to fill out...right? Maybe it's just me, then. Whatevs.

Overall, it was enjoyable but highly forgettable. It gave me the gooey feelings again, but I kind of felt like I could have skipped a lot of it.
