most of these stories had to do with ghosts and the supernatural which was fine but some were just a pain to get through because of how obvious the events were yet how slow they were being revealed. this was especially true about the last two stories, Memory, and The Back Alley. A Deserter In The House which I had already read in the Deserter collection was one of the better ones as well as The Bully which was disturbing and unexpected.

The Bully: ⭐⭐⭐⭐. This was so disturbing, poor child.
A Deserter in the House: ⭐⭐⭐⭐. Enraging and sad.
Heart of a Father: ⭐⭐⭐⭐. The ending was depressing af.
Memory: ⭐⭐⭐. Hated her.
The Back Alley: ⭐⭐⭐⭐. So good, I love it when the cocky villain gets what's coming to them.
In the Soil: ⭐⭐½. I saw it coming and it was meh.
Another one of my favorite volumes so far.

Sadly this collection felt pretty lackluster, nothing that exciting, certainly nothing that scary. Still, it's Junji Itou, it's worth just a quick flip through.
