Really lovely, but I regret reading the Arabic translation, there's nothing wrong with it objectively but I felt it was too dry and formal. maybe ill reread it in English.

sometimes i read something and feel stupid because not everything makes sense or i zone out and reread and then i zone out again during that reread and by the end, i have no idea what i actually absorbed at all. this was one of them so i think i'll have to reread it again one day after i read some of rilke's actual poetry and get a better sense of who he was. but for now...

Fun fact: the first time I came across this book was when watching Sister Act 2. You heard me right, that movie references this book, go see it if you don't believe me. And yes, I do like cheesy fun for the whole family 90s films. Unapolagetically so.
More than a decade later I came across this at the Antwerp Book Con and I was curious enough to take it with me, having researched it a bit more thoroughly by now. I highly enjoyed reading it, Rilke's idea about life are thoughtprovoking and beautifully and lyrically presented. Definitely a book I shall be returning to. Part of me is glad I waited untill now to read it, I do believe as a more seasoned reader and generally more adult person *coughs*, I was able to appreciate it much more.
I wouldn't say I agree with everything he says and his devotion to loneliness does seem to stretch a bit too far. The Romantic style of writing is probably not for everyone either. Therefore not a perfect score but warmly recommended nonetheless.

Ho fatto un po’ fatica a finirlo perché mi è risultato un po’ lento, ma comunque un libro meraviglioso per quanto breve, alcune citazioni mi sono rimaste impresse e non le dimenticherò facilmente.
