I really enjoyed reading Rilke’s letters, although I do not agree on all that he has to say, many things I found very touching. His views on art and criticism, sadness and growth and patience I found particularly inspiring. I did find some parts hard to grasp hence my four star rating, however, this may be due to my personal reading capabilities rather than Rilke’s writing.

Nothing is as powerful as silence.

The Letters to a Young Poet are ten letters written by Rilke from 1902 to 1908 to Franz Xaver Kappus who was an officer at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt.
The letters were in response to Kappus' sending some of his poems and seeking Rilke's advice as to their quality.
The letters were published by Kappus in 1929, three years after Rilke's death.

He who creates must be a world of his own and find everything within himself and in the natural world that he has elected to follow.
