The beginning was a little slow & I don’t really love the main character but the story quickly picked up towards the end and I couldn’t put it down. Similarly to the first book, lots of plot twists, some predictable, some not.

I loved how thr story showcases the struggles that people have choosing between families and friends. It doesn't back away from showing that sometimes there isn't a right answer and you can only go with what you know.

I very much enjoyed how the two families interact and the seeing both the similarities and differences between them. It is a great way to build up the drama for the final book.

I thought this was a really strong second book. I devoured it between two flights. Kiva pissed me off sometimes, but I think it was fair and realistic for her character. Overall I just am curious to see where this trilogy finishes. There's so much I want to happen, but also I don't know if it will.
I want Kiva and Jaren to be together so much!! Why didn't Kiva shut TF up sooner and stop back stabbing him. I hope he can forgive her and there's some way to get his powers back. Also, Cardon, I want his future story like now.

I loved seeing Kiva outside of the Zalendov context in this story. Her battle between loyalties was interesting and played out quite well.
I was punched in the gut several times in this book - especially at the end.
