More like 3.5 stars. This is part of my reread of the series. This is a turning point in the series where Emerson and Amelia do back to Amarna and their first meeting. There are twists and turns in this tale of deceit, envy and looking for lost treasure that will make you yell and smile.

This is also the result of the events of the last book and the Lost City.

A good one.

As with all Amelia Peabody books thus far, it was fun, but I did find this seventh entry in the series to be overly long and it definitely does not stand alone. I don’t think much of it would make much sense unless the reader has read at least The Last Camel Died at Noon and The Lion in the Valley first. Peters re-boots the romance between Amelia and Emerson in causing Emerson to suffer from amnesia in this one. On the plus side, I was lucky to be able to listen to the audio version read by the incomparable Barbara Rosenblatt.

Just when I was getting bored with the series, this book comes along. The story held my attention and I had a hard time putting the book down. I kept wondering if Emerson really had amnesia or if he was faking it. And was the Master Criminal really back? A very exciting read and it made me want to continue reading the series.

Ms Rosenblatt's narration gives this book the 4th star. Ms Peters did, indeed, go there vis a vis the love triangle. She even returned to the overly melodramatic plot point from a couple books ago. Otherwise, it is a light, fun book.

didn't love the amnesia storyline and I'll admit that I did miss Ramses a bit
