This is a fun Poirot mystery. Hercule is on holiday in Petra when he's called in to assist in deducing the killer of Mrs Boynton who at first appearances has died of natural causes but it's quickly obvious that she has been injected with poison.
Mrs Boynton is one of the most detestable characters that Christie has ever come up with and it takes 100 pages before she's killed off by which time I was itching to do it myself!
There's certainly every reason for any of her family members or fellow travellers to have done the deed which sets things up for a marvelous murder mystery.
Poirot is always confident in the books he appears in and he's even more so here as he smugly predicts that he will solve the case before the day is up and at one point proudly agrees that he's the most famous detective in the world. Somehow he's still such a likeable character that you can't help agreeing with him and having a laugh at his confidence and the bewilderment of everyone around him as he reveals all
Another case solved!

I think this is my favourite book of Agatha Christie so far? And I actually started developing a fondness for Poirot, while I used to find him insufferable. I really liked the setting and I didn't guess who did it, even though it felt... idk.
I don't know who I wanted to do it but it felt very... idk for Lady westidkhername to do it. Like i guess it made sense but I would've loved if it was either Raymond or Jinny.

Appointment With Death was the book I decided to read for September’s motive for Read Christie which was hatred. Lots of books could have fitted for this theme but as this was also the official pick I thought this one would be a good one! And it was!
Mrs Boynton was a vile character and I totally understood in this case why people would be wanting to get rid of her 😂 She treated her family like dirt and was highly controlling. So, of course the many members of the family that were travelling with her to Petra were under suspicion when she was found to have been injected with something that killed her.
You had the genius that is Poirot on the case of course, and he only had 24 hours to find out out who the killer was. He certainly was putting his little grey cells to work with this one! He has the family to talk to and also the various tourists travelling with them.
I really enjoyed this one, the setting, the dysfunctional family drama, the array of characters. The pace was quite fast even though it took a long time until Mrs Boynton died! The whole family dynamics were just so entertaining to read about.
Did I guess who did it? Nope, of course not! Another Christie that has become a favourite and I think this would be a great one for people looking for a Poirot story to try.
