DID NOT FINISH: 15%

I've certainly read more thrilling tales of deduction, but this has to be given its due as a genesis.

It was decided that we should live together while I was in Paris. Our isolation was perfect. We admitted no visitors. Nobody knew the address of the house where we lived.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it suspicious that two single men have gone to live alone in an isolated place and that they do not allow visitors and even more, they have not shared their address with their friends and acquaintances?

my only complaint is that it could have been longer

"Coincidences, in general, are great stumbling-blocks in the way of that class of thinkers who have been educated to know nothing of the theory of probabilities."

'The Murders in the Rue Morgue' is described as the first modern detective story. And, I was pleasantly surprised to find it a most entertaining one as well. Having read some of Agatha Christie's work now, I can see the similarities (unsurprising given Poe's work was a major source of inspiration for Agatha's work). Poe, you never cease to amaze me. What a genius you were. Having read a fair chunk of your poetry, horror short stories, and now this detective story, I have to say, I'm an absolute Poe STAN.
