This has never been my favorite series from Juliet Blackwell. In fact, I stopped reading pretty early in this series because it just wasn't holding my attention. I decided to give it another try with this one. I started with the audio version, thinking it would be something to listen to while my hands were busy with the intricate mittens I am knitting.

Yeah. No. The narrator spoke so quickly I ended up with a headache trying to keep up! I then requested a hard copy from the library. Much better pacing-wise, but I still have to admit I'm not a huge fan.

I will stick with Blackwell's Haunted Home Renovation series (though I wasn't thrilled with the latest installment there either, thanks to the damned love triangle trope!)

I like pigs and I like San Francisco - what can I say? Fun book and a quick read.

2.5 stars. Enjoyable enough but failed to really grab my attention and I found myself skimming through it.

Can’t wait to read the next one. I loved this one as much as the others.

"i couldn't think about max without a pang of longing for what i could never have: ordinariness. i simply wasn't normal. and that was ok. normal wasn't all it was cracked up to be after all. i was happy to remain my true, weird self."

"could we be a little less cryptic please? i've had just about all i can take. i'm a fixin' to have me a hissy fit."

"other women might want a nice tiffany lampshade, maybe a pretty little antique vanity. but my girlfriend? oh no. nothing but two-ton enchanted wings will do for her."

"you have one heck of a hitch in your giddyup."

"i felt tore up from the floor up."

Lily buys a book of old clothes when she gets a tingle from one item. That item leads her to a vision of a woman burning at the stake. While she's still recovering from that, her friend Conrad asks for her help saving the tree he sleeps under in Golden Gate Park. From there, synchronicity brings the two missions together.

Lily Ivory remains an interesting character. I like the way she is growing in her confidence and her strength. She is trusting in her friends more an opening herself to other friends.

From a story point, I thought this was the weakest in the series. It had all the right elements. There was just something missing for me and I can't quite put my finger on it. Strangely enough, it might be the size of the supporting cast. It might be the need to constantly reference events in previous books. That starts to take up space.

The good news is that if this wasn't the best, that means the whole series is pretty darn good.
