I have mixed feelings on this one. Parts of it were quite funny, rest of it was just kinda stupid. Got the feeling the author was overdoing trying to make the book as outrageous as possible. It was her first book though and had potential. I'll read her next book because this one piqued my interest enough to give her another chance. Read this for Pirate the dog, if nothing else.
This was cute. I enjoyed it. Might even look up the other books in the series in future.
This is more like 2.5 stars, but whatever. The writing needs some serious work. The plot and world building is interesting, but hard to plow through with the crappy writing and lack of editing. I'd only read the sequels if given to me for free.

This book was genuinely unpleasant to read. The story was just a string of scenes of the MC getting dragged from place to place with no one explaining anything to her, and then her getting yelled at for not knowing things. Also, the main love interest seemed like a total asshole but based on skipping ahead some, it looks like the book plays the old "it's okay that he's an asshole because he's hot!" card. No thank you.

Lizzie is the adopted daughter of a society darling, so when she turns thirty, inherits demon-slayer powers, and a biker witch grandmother, her life is turned upside down.
OK, so first all, I read this series out of order. I downloaded book 5 - My Big Fat Demon Slayer Wedding for free last month, and started reading it before I realised I had book 1 already on my Kindle, so I pretty happy to read how it all started.
I will say now, I prefer book 5. It is much better written, and the characters are stronger. So in a way, I'm kinda glad I read that one first, so I know what Fox is capable of.
So Lizzie is planning her simple 30th birthday with a few friends, when her recently re-united grandmother locks her in the bathroom. This is the start of a crazy adventure with demons, imps, witches, shape-shifters, and motorbikes.
I love the original take on a familiar story. A lot of Lizzie's back-ups are pensioners. Who ride Harleys. And swear, drink, wear leather. Oh, and make spells out of roadkill.
The coven are pretty awesome, they're irrepressible, independent, and confident in their ability.
They're just as likely to lash out, as they are to be affectionate; and they are a stark contrast to Lizzie's society mother.
Then you have Dimitri, the token hot guy who knows more about Lizzie and the demons than he ever lets on. He varies between being over-protective, and pushing Lizzie to become all she can be; and has his own motives for wanting this Demon Slayer trained.
There's a dog who talks. The trick is getting him to shut up.
And of course, Lizzie. She's actually really cool. She's not afraid to stand up for herself and do what she thinks is best, even when she's overwhelmed with demons and family drama, she's still very adamant about having her own opinion and doing what's right.
The not-so-good...
I found the writing very rough. There were sections where I had to go back and check something, because suddenly something was different.
There was a lot of arguing, and I was getting whiplash from some of the changes of opinion from characters. Everything was just so rushed, trying to pack a lot into what was just a few days for Lizzie.
I also found some of the spells and curses that were probably supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, fell a little flat, and were trying too hard.
Luckily, I've already read the 5th book, so I know the writing gets better.

Oh my goodness!!! This was a free book I picked up on Amazon and have been reading at work using the Kindle Cloud Reader and on my phone using the Kindle app - someday I actually mean to own a Kindle! LOL! I was **AMAZING*** funny and I have literally laughed my way through this book!
Lizzie is a preschool teacher, completely happy with her job and planning to attend her 30th birthday part when into her life waltzes her long lost grandma... in a rhinestone studded t-shirt and driving a Harley! ;-) To top it off she's a witch and she tells Lizzie she's an incredibly powerful demon slayer! Lizzie does what any totally normal person would do, she quickly and firmly decided her grannie is a raving lunatic! LOL! Enter the beginning of the hilarity! ;-)
Seriously, this is the best book! I have giggled my way through this book and hated having to stop reading during my lunch break. Lizzie is so normal and she says what any of us would say when faced with the same thing! It is that utter believability that makes this such a terrific read!
This is definitely one of my new favorite reads. I can't wait to hunt down the other books in the series and see if they are just as good.
(Oh and by the way... Dimitri is so totally hunky! LOL! And I've always thought Jack Russell Terriers sounded like that! ~snicker~)
Read it, you'll love it! :-)
Enjoy!

Newly anointed with demon-fighting powers and suddenly able to hear the thoughts of her hilarious Jack Russell terrier, a preschool teacher finds a whole new world of dark and dangerous, including a sexy shape-shifting griffin she's not entirely sure she can trust.

Like the idea, love the grannies, too much sex
The story idea is fun and the wacky grannies are great for laughs, but the sex stuff is just too much for me. I won't be continuing with this series. If sex doesn't bother you, read it! The laughs and surprises are here.

Lizzie finally meets her grandmother when she (Lizzie) is getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday. Lizzie is in for a shock because grandma is taking her away from everything she knows and (sort of) teaching her to fight demons.
