This was quite similar to Quinn’s AOFAG and had a number of parallels, but I liked this more even tho I am a Benophie truther.
This one had more action due to the higher stake drama. I loved both Anne and Daniel. Anne is courage, clever and compassionate. Daniel is cheeky, devoted and attentive. Both so witty! They are so good for and to each other. The chemistry and the pining are 10/10. I really loved the scenes with the sisters/cousins.
Though I wish Georgehad faced bigger consequences than just being exiled from England. The thought of him being free somewhere else is… eugh. I was also hoping that we got to see Anne’s dad again at the end but I don’t mean for Anne to forgive him. He had put her in this position and should have faced some consequence too. I just wanted to see Anne get some kind of closure.

This book was objectively not bad, but it just left me with an eh feeling. There was almost too much happening. Notably, I was distracted (hello Christmas), so maybe I just didn't really get to take it in.
I want to start with what I liked. I thought Anne was a well-written character. She had a complex backstory, and the book really highlighted the naive nature of a teen girl. I thought a lot of her decisions made sense for her as a character.
Now, this book also left me with a lot of questions. Why did Lord Chatteris still care about Anne so much? How the heck did he find Anne? Why did he attack Daniel towards the beginning of the book? Really, all of my questions are about George.
I think my biggest issue with the novel is that it reads like a well-written version of a plot I would have come up with as a child. I mean so many things are happening. Daniel is exiled. Daniel is unexiled. Someone is trying to kill Daniel. Anne is abandoned by her family. Someone is stalking and trying to kill Anne. Daniel and Anne are falling in love. There is a kidnapping and rescue plan.
Overall, I just didn't feel like I got much from this story unlike some of Julia Quinn's other books. I will say that this is a good read for those who want regency romance with more of a fun, thrilling plot instead of as much pining.

Another super fun romance, I am officially addicted to Julia Quinn now. This started off a bit too instalove for my tastes but won me over with witty dialogue and a badass heroine.

More heavy in its themes than the Bridgerton books. I did not particularly care for the banter of the main couple. I liked the struggle of the FMC with her past and looks.
I love an all in man I love a couple with multiple enemies lol

Daniel has just returned home after years hiding away, he knows what it's like to be alone and unable to trust people. Now that he is back to his life, close to his family and ready to start living again.
Anne is hiding from her past, she is working as a governess and likes to keep to herself, there isn't anyone who knows who she really is.
This romance can be described as an insta love, and I was totally fine with it. Daniel didn't lose a moment since he decided what he wanted and he was marvelous. His actions spoke loudly and I loved him, especially they way he kept finding ways to be near her and pursuit her, he was such a flirt.
Anne is very guarded, she is afraid to open up but Daniel shows her that she can be herself without having to watch over her back any more.
There is an added layer of suspense in the book which I found very intriguing. The plot and romance were absolutely lovely.

Daniel was very much the lovable rouge in [b:Just Like Heaven|9571478|Just Like Heaven (Smythe-Smith Quartet, #1)|Julia Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1388292051l/9571478._SY75_.jpg|13341130] and he was still that same lovable rouge in this but he had a lot more depth to him and it made him even more lovable!
Anne's journey was a little bit silly to be honest, I found it all very hard to suspend belief for BUT they were a super lovely couple and the shenanigans were fun and saw the impotent cartoon villain get thwarted. Although I'd have liked to have known if his wife was okay and didn't have to go to Australia with him.

One of the more interesting Julia Quinn books.
2 mad men. Premarital relations. An outcast and secret identities.
Much better than the typical.
