If they made a movie exactly like the book we would have 2 completely different Roger Rabbit movies, much like Forest Gump. The book was more noir and it would be interesting to see this version turned into a movie or show.
I definitely like the movie better but I liked it fairly well.
This was a fun gumshoe mystery.
I love the movie, and the book didn't disappoint.
Yes, it's different. They always are.
This was one of those mysteries I could slowly figure out as the protagonist does.

(3.5) A decent satire of the private eye genre. You can see how Wolf's good ideas were turned to great ones in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, one of my favorite movies of all time.
But please note, this was originally a 4-star read until an awful transphobic scene made me drop it down. I know it was written in the early 80s and blah, blah, blah. It's still an awful scene. If you're triggered by such things, you might want to sit this one out.

Maybe not the best written book ever, but definitely a fun one. I knew the characters but never seen the movie, so the story was new for me and I highly enjoyed it. Liked that it was set very much in reality but had some odd bits thrown in to make it unique and so entertaining. Really want to see the movie now
An overall enjoyable read. It suffers from some of the prejudice of the time (an early assumption pins guilt on Rodger because he sees a shrink).
Otherwise it's very different from the film in a good way. Both works are similar in a few key ways but headed to wildly different conclusions.

This was actually a lot better than I expected. I absolutely loved the movie, if that is what you are looking for... this is NOT it. It might be close, but it is different enough to make you not like the book if that is what you wanted (as evidenced by the other reviews/comments).
What this was, is a noir crime drama set in a world where Toons exist.
For me, the book held it together till the very end, and then went downhill. I was really liking it a lot till the last few pages, then it went from being a 4-star book to a 3.
There are more books in the series, it would be interesting to see how it continues.

Was tempted to give an extra star for the audiobook narrator. Hasn’t aged well. Impressive for *me* of all people to say the screenplay was more a coherent & logical exploration of the idea. But there you have it.
