One of the rare cases where the movie might work better than the book, but the way Toons were portrayed as a part of the physical world was absolutely genius. A fun story overall, and one I was glad I knew had little in common with the film, as I was able to focus on is own mysteries and rather different characters. I would have liked a little more of personal growth from Eddie Valiant towards his general racist views, but okay, product of its time and all.
Definitely recommended.

What could have been? Maybe? Better? Maybe. A more adult take on Toons that will tickle your sides and keep you guessing.

A detective story that involves a world with toons and humans in the same world is fantastic. I grew up loving the movie adaptation and found myself surprised how completely different the books was in but story and tone. I absolutely loved it though.

The distance between this mediocre book and one of the most impressive movies ever made is honestly incredible.

I knew it was different from the movie, but... Wow it's not what I expected

I liked it. Not nearly as much as I liked the movie it later inspired but still it was well written and definitely quotable dialogue. I wasn't a big fan of the "tea kettle" aspect of it the story but I did like some of the twists and turns. Easy and light read. Though some of the characters are obviously the same I am curious how they got the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" out of this considering a lot of the characters are seedier and Eddie Valiant has no back-story whatsoever in this.
