I did not watch the TikTok series which maybe would have tied the story together better for me. I like cozy romance but this was a slog with no real driving storyline. The first 100 pages or so started off promising but, it got repetitive really quickly.

I loved this book, but I'm conflicted. I'm a fan of the TikTok series and was so excited to see Lily and Bel's story published. It didn't disappoint! The characters are as lovable as they were in the skit form, and the emotional journey was one that warmed my heart, made me laugh, and brought tears to my eyes from time to time.
I also think Jaysea Lynn does something extraordinary with this concept overall, and that's provide a comforting outlook on death and the afterlife, no matter what you believe. It's genuinely beautiful to read.
My only real complaint, and it's a mild one at that, is that the book is very long for what is largely a character-driven story. While I adored so many of the scenes I read, after a certain point, I started just wanting it to be finished rather than truly enjoying the last 100 pages. It may just be a personal preference, because I still think this is a fantastic debut.

The only reason I'm taking a half star off is for how much sex is in this book. For someone who doesn't like to read sex, I skipped probably 1/5 of the books. However, what I did listen to was super sweet, well written, and introspective for anyone who has religious trauma, sexual trauma, and familial issues of any sort. Well done, Ms Lynne. I will continue to watch the webseries this book is based on with new understanding of the background and appreciation for how much work is out into each character.
