Cougar alert! No cougars were harmed in this book but I may have teared up

Lol! I will 110% admit that this cover stopped me in my tracks. I added this book to my TBR before Goodreads even loaded the blurb. I have zero shame in admitting that. I am happy to admit that not only does the cover cause skipped heart beats but wow what a story!

Anyone with a pulse and a romantic streak will be head over heels for these two. If you are a closeted nerd like myself, this is your Cinderella story! If you like hot jocks with protective streaks...sigh. If you love, live, and exist for friends to lovers stories...you may die in peace after devouring The Perfect First. Just before you expire- in your blissful existence, know that this is just the beginning for this series. You may need more stories for your final resting place. Just a heads up!

I plan on enrolling at FU as soon as I find the address to send my transcript!

DNF 61% it started out promising but I wasn’t gripped by the arcs of either character, and female lead traipsed into too many tropes that annoy me

Description: This book is about sheltered genius Seph, short for Persephone, and football star Reece. Seph makes a list of firsts she wants to complete to finally break out of her shell and defy her parents a little bit. One of the items on this list is “lose virginity”. Since Seph is socially awkward, she puts out an ad to find the perfect guy for the job. In walks Reece, who mistakes Seph for a media consultant he is supposed to be meeting. After he finds out what Seph is doing, he can’t stop thinking about her, and how he wants to protect her from creeps. This starts their friendship where he becomes Seph’s guide to complete other items on her list, but they both become so much more to one another.

Thoughts: I absolutely loved this book. I saw an excerpt from it on Facebook, and it drew me in so much that I just had to read it. I was not disappointed!

This book follows the friends to lovers trope, which I love. Maya Hughes writes Seph and Reece’s relationship so well. It never felt forced to me. From the beginning, they just fit together. I got the warm and fuzzies reading about all their firsts together, and the cute couple shit they do while trying so hard to fight their growing feelings for each other. The relationship also didn’t feel rushed to me. It unfolded organically and gave a good slow burn for the first half of the book.

There are sexy scenes in this book, but they flowed with the plot well. The author wasn’t just writing sex scenes to be writing them. They were well placed around important moments in the book. The sex scenes were also tastefully done, which I prefer, compared to other books I’ve read in this genre.

I would definitely recommend this book, and can’t wait to read about Nix’s story in book 2!

Okay, this book took me by complete surprise. For a NA romance, this was spot on! Maybe one of the best I've ever read. Most NA romances are immature and can make you roll your eyes at least a few times while reading. This one was really good!

Seph was maybe one of my favorite female lead characters. She had such a complicated storyline, but she was still fun, unique and a good person! Reese was a smidge of the bad boy turned good, but we really only saw a minor glimpse of the bad boy attitude in the beginning. Other than that, he turned into a mushy, cinnamon roll sweetheart. I keep waiting for Reese to make me pissed with the "always there, conflict" in the storyline, but he never did! It was handled so well.

I really enjoyed their banter and chemistry! I loved how he never let her "status" get to him and loved her no matter what. The storyline with her parents was handled very well and I was so happy to see that through.

Great side characters that I can't wait to continue on in the series to get their stories. All in all, this was an amazing NA romance, start of a series! Maya Hughes has impressed me, so much! I HIGHLY recommend this one!
