"Peter Pan" by J.M. Barrie is a timeless classic that captures the spirit of childhood adventure and the bittersweet nature of growing up. The story of Peter, the boy who never grows up, is filled with whimsical characters and enchanting descriptions of Neverland.

Peter's character is complex and slightly tragic; while he embodies joy and freedom, his refusal to grow up isolates him from those who care for him. This eternal youth, though magical, leads to loneliness and a lack of deeper connections.

Overall, "Peter Pan" is a poignant exploration of imagination and the delicate balance between the joy of youth and the inevitability of growing up, making it a must-read for anyone who believes in the magic of dreams.

Alright alright, I know this is a classic and you should judge a book according to it's zeitgeist, but as a modern (female) reader it's hard to do so. As all women in this book fall into the mother role so willingly.

Though I've been wanting to read this classic, I think once is enough.

A bit darker than the Disney version, but relatively entertaining - even if Peter is a bit annoying.

Peter Pan is a classic for a reason. It takes these three children on an adventure to Neverland where dreams are made reality. There are pirates, mermaids and lost boys. What adventures will they get into? (Side note: there are racist elements with stereotyping indigenous people)

I had actually never read the original Peter Pan story until now and I was surprised by how accurate a retelling the Disney film version is, even right down to the clothes Tinker Bell is described as wearing! Obviously, this book is of its time, and so really quite sexist and incredibly racist. What surprised me was that it is quite emotional, the overarching theme of the scariness of growing up is  touching, a universal feeling and likely why the book has stood the test of time despite its obvious issues.
