Oh, this book was excellent. It was more real, gritty, and painfully heartbreaking than the Disney-fied version. Tinkerbell continually calls Peter a "stupid ass" and Wendy, when getting frustrated as being treated as a mother of all the lost boys, says that spinster life is to be envied. The heartbreaking loss of a mother is so sad, but in the end is a lovely, yet dark, tale. Plus, the version I listened to was narrated by Tim Curry. EXCELLENT!

What a delightful surprise! I saw the movie as a child and the Robin Williams version as a teenager so I thought this would be completely a repeat. The story contained few surprises but the prose was sweet, original, and witty.

It is quite different from later adaptations of the book, especially compared to Disney's portrayal. It is still a classic and an interesting read, but the time period does show and do not expect it to be the same as the adaptations.
Decidedly mixed. Great for discussion of childhood, fantasy. But the Indians and racism, sexism. Also great for discussion, but so much ugliness.
