We all know the story of Peter Pan. How he lost his shadow, and was discovered looking for it in the Darlings Nursery. How Wendy sewed the shadow back on and then Peter took the children off to Never Never land.
I actually found it hard to read this book because of the language. The grammar is somewhat old fashioned. The Story first appeared in a serial magazine in 1902. And the English language sure has changed in the last 118 years!!
As I was reading, I decide that this was written in the PANTSER style. which means writing by the seat of your pants and with NO OUTLINE whatsoever. The way the ideas and adventures were strung together was just all over the place.
I'm giving this 2 stars just because I struggled to read it all.

i've tried to read this book so many times and every time i can't make it more than around 70 pages in. it's extremely boring and i was shell shocked at the levels of racism. i know this is an old book but still wow. i gave up on this book yet again :|

Sebagai orang yang tahu cerita ini dari film animasi Disney dan buku berilustrasi, aku kaget sih baca buku Peter Pan. Ternyata versi buku dari Peter Pan agak syulit dibaca ya T_T.
Oke, neverland adalah fantasi. Tapi dunia yang ditinggali oleh Wendy itu dunia fantasi bukan sih? Nana, pengasuhnya Wendy itu beneran anjing? Dan Anak-anak tuh beneran muncul dari kamar mandi untuk minta dilahirkan? Belum lagi kata-kata yang digunakan dalam buku ini unik seperti membenahi benak, benak romantis yang mirip kotak-kotak mungil, dan yang lainnya.
Rasanya pingin banget nyari versi Bahasa Inggrisnya tapi kemudian sadar diri kalau buku klasik bahasa Inggrisnya nggak mungkin sama kayak buku-bukunya Ali Hazeelwood atau buku romance.
"Peter Pan" mengisahkan tentang seorang anak laki-laki abadi bernama Peter Pan, yang menolak untuk tumbuh dewasa. Ia tinggal di Neverland, sebuah pulau ajaib yang penuh dengan petualangan, bersama dengan sekelompok anak laki-laki yang juga tidak ingin tumbuh dewasa, yang dikenal sebagai Anak Hilang.
Suatu malam, Peter Pan mengunjungi rumah keluarga Darling di London dan mengajak Wendy, John, dan Michael Darling untuk pergi ke Neverland. Dengan bantuan debu peri Tinker Bell, mereka terbang ke Neverland dan memulai petualangan yang luar biasa.
Yang menarik dari buku ini (setelah ngomel-ngomel :-() adalah gaya penceritaannya yang unik. Narator dalam buku ini sering kali berbicara langsung kepada pembaca, seolah-olah break the fourth wall, dan sok akrab. Pembaca beneran diajak untuk mengikuti petualangan Peter Pan dan kawan-kawan, bahkan ada kalanya juga disuruh ikut memikirkan tokoh dalam buku ini.
Selain itu, bagian ketika Wendy menjadi “ibu” di Neverland juga. Kayak menggambarkan banget beratnya menjadi ibu sampai dia berkata, “oh astaga, kadang-kadang aku berfikir betapa enaknya menjadi perawan tua!”
Ini kayaknya orangtua sekarang nggak akan membiarkan anak-anak membaca buku ini tanpa pengawasan selain karena banyak adegan violent di dalamnya.

to be completely honest, i'm not sure i can give peter pan more than a one star rating. i understand and appreciate the theme of the novel, i enjoyed the fantasy elements, but nonetheless they are tainted by the RAMPANT misogyny and racism. it was BAD.

A classic story! Parts definitely haven’t aged well obviously and I totally forgot how much darker the book is than the movie (tink is a bitch lol). Fun quick read
