Delightful read! Considerably less brutal than the first book of the series with a comparably compelling story of healing. As much as I appreciated the emotional effusiveness of the first book, I appreciated that this book did such a great job of the hurt/comfort trope without any characters being hurt on the page. Isak does have intense on page PTSD breakdown as a result of his decade long abusive marriage. Emil though is an utter gem and his pure optimism about the world and love for Isak are unshakable joys that final lead Isak to trust him.
I appreciate the sheer love and affection demonstrated by these characters for each other it was a delight to read and I adored the epilogue. This is a super good take on hurt/comfort that focuses much more on the healing process that it takes to reach the comfort aspect without lingering on the hurt element.
Though there are numerous similarities to the first book of the series I in no way think you need to read the first book to enjoy this one. Though the epilogue does have character cross over so that would make more sense if you had read the first book.

Isak has severe PTSD type symptoms throughout this book due to intimate partner violence he faced prior to the start of the plot. At the end of the book Isak is pregnant and gives birth.
