It started off really slow but it picks up in the last few chapters if you stick with it and now I want to read the second.

"The Thousandth Floor" by Katharine McGee is a captivating and addictive futuristic novel that deserves its solid four-star rating. Set in a dazzlingly imagined world where a thousand-floor tower houses the lives and secrets of its inhabitants, this book offers a thrilling blend of high society drama, forbidden romance, and technological wonders. McGee's intricate storytelling and well-developed characters make for an engaging and immersive reading experience.

One of the book's strengths is its ability to create a vivid and mesmerizing setting. The concept of a tower that stretches into the sky, with each floor representing a different social class and lifestyle, is brilliantly executed. McGee's attention to detail paints a picture of a luxurious yet complex society, complete with extravagant parties, advanced technology, and the allure of the unknown. The descriptions of the tower's opulent interiors and the glamorous lives of its residents provide a tantalizing glimpse into a future that is both glamorous and unsettling.

The characters in "The Thousandth Floor" are multifaceted and well-rounded, each with their own secrets, desires, and struggles. Their interconnected lives and intertwining storylines create a sense of intrigue and suspense. The forbidden romances and tangled relationships add an extra layer of complexity to the narrative, keeping readers invested and eager to uncover the outcomes. While the book juggles multiple perspectives, McGee expertly weaves them together, ensuring that each character's voice is distinct and compelling. Overall, "The Thousandth Floor" is an enthralling and imaginative read that will appeal to fans of futuristic settings, intriguing characters, and a healthy dose of mystery.

I don't understand why everything has to be a series. This does not have an ending.

I really enjoyed reading this book and found myself not wanting to put it down between chapters regularly.

I decided I couldn't rate it higher than I have however for a couple reasons:

Firstly I couldn’t get onboard with the Atlas/Avery relationship. Too weird given she was 5 when he became her brother - very young - which made the whole thing a bit gross and not something I could root for. Secondly the ending was too open-ended for this to be entirely stand alone. The final chapter eluded to a sequel, by pointing out open questions a little too obviously, however this is the sort of book I think could have benefited from being stand alone personally.

Having said all that thought, I still gave it 4.25 as I really did enjoy reading it, I just had a couple qualms.

Man, I love a truly fast-paced captivating book. Katharine McGee is the queen of the multi-POV. Rich, unsupervised teens set in a futuristic NYC, but somehow she makes these disasters of characters deeply empathetic.

Also, I cannot believe this is her debut novel! Clearly working as an editor first taught her how to write a tightly paced page-turner with characters that each feel unique and fully-realized.
