I burnt through The Thousandth Floor as soon as I bought it. SO that was fun. No sleep for Coco. I didn’t have high expectations, which is probably why this book surprised me so much. Set in a dystopian future in which humanity is spread across the world in skyscraper conglomerates, this movie presents a bleak future in which technology is in the very air we breathe. New York is contained in a 1000 story high skyscraper, and the higher you are, the better the surrounding facilities and your social status get. The story revolves around the girl who lives on floor 1000, the epitome of wealth and high class, and the physical representation of the convergence between unchecked power and technology, along with four other people whose lives get unwillingly intertwined. Mix that with the social division and plausible use of technology in this book and, you guessed it: I love it!

Too many characters in my opinion. Felt a little all over the place. But is an interesting premise.

I’m shook to my core, oh my gosh. I’m also very sad, smh. Why did I read this?! Lmao. Don’t appreciate the ending at all, but of course I wanna know what happens next, lol.

Started off slow for me but picked up really quickly, especially once i finally got the characters straight. It got super addictive to read since the chapters are short & there are MAJOR Gossip Girl vibes. I loved how all the characters connected by the end!

Ik ben over het algemeen geen liefhebber van contemporary drama (Nee, ook niet als het zich afspeelt in een toren over 100 jaar), maar Gossip Girl is wel een enorme guilty pleasure van me, dus toen ik dit boek voor een prikkie op het internet tegenkwam, wilde ik het toch wel graag een kans geven. Het kon immers zomaar meevallen.
En dat deed het zeker, meer dan dat zelfs! Ik ben heel positief en aangenaam verrast door dit boek. En dat komt met name omdat dit boek iets doet wat veel contemporary drama's toch achterwege laten. Alle karakters worden goed uitgewerkt. Alle personages hebben hun eigen zorgen, problemen, hobby's en persoonlijkheden. Ze zijn allemaal echt uniek en zij zijn echt degene die het plot in beweging zetten en in beweging houden.
Uiteraard betekent dat dat het even duurt voor het boek verandert in een page turner. De personages moeten eerst worden opgebouwd, de toekomst en hoe die eruit ziet moet worden neergezet en pas als we ons langzaamaan aan de karakters gaan hechten en we ons kunnen verplaatsen in hun leefwereld komt het plot in een stroomversnelling terecht. Vanaf dat moment is het boek bijna niet meer weg te leggen en langzaamaan begin je ook bang te worden. Want welk karakter waaraan je je gehecht hebt valt haar ondergang tegemoet?
Het enige probleem met dit boek, maar misschien is het wel een probleem met mij, is de Amerikaanse kijk op "incest" die niet helemaal strookt met mijn beeld ervan. In Nederland zijn huwelijken tussen adoptiebroers- en zussen gewoon legaal. Er zullen vast wel mensen hun wenkbrauwen over optrekken, maar toch. Zo'n groot issue is het helemaal niet. En in het boek speelt dit issue een nogal grote rol. Ik persoonlijk moest me daar een beetje overheen zetten, maar ach, als dat het enige is.
Ik ben benieuwd naar het tweede deel!

This was an interesting book. It held my attention and I really liked the premise. But I got distracted by other books. I almost forgot how the book started when I arrived at the end of it, but it was good OVERALL. It was just, missing something I can't put my finger on. Maybe I am just over these kind of books about teen and young adults.
