So glad this book made it to the Epiphany Book Party this year -- what a treat to read -- the protagonist is a girl I never would have been, but as an adult, I'm awfully glad I met her. Great voice! I love how she is true to her values through the most terrible of circumstances. Bravo, Mattie!

3.5 stars. I appreciate this for the piece of literature that it is but did not thoroughly enjoy this book.

A good, quick read. Indeed, it's the first western I've ever been able to finish. Usually I don't have the patience for them. (Lonesome Dove is more potent than Ambien for me.) I enjoyed True Grit, but have the feeling that it won't necessarily be a book that sticks with me as one of my favorites.
If you need something fast and easy to read on the bus or at the beach, or if you're just one of those people who (like me) likes to read the books before seeing the movies as often as you can, it's worth a look.
