Couldn't get into the characters, the romance, or the story in general. I really really wanted to love this one, but the writing is so repetitive it's like the author thinks their readers are too dumb to remember details. Reads like a middle school chapter book tbh

This... was severely mismarketed while also not quite knowing what it wanted to be. The writing is simple and repetitive, very tell not show, and it makes it read like a younger YA book, especially since the characters feel way younger than they are. Yet, there is instant lust and the whole book is very focused on the relationship. This reads more like a contemporary romance more than a fantasy, since the fantastical elements could easily be replaced with non-magical equivalents and don't do anything to impact the story. It's cozy but there are almost no stakes and no plot. I can't say I didn't enjoy it, but it is hard not to notice it's faults. It's a shame, this could have been so good.

⤷ i'm not entirely sure what i just read, i got maybe 60% through this book and i physically could not force myself to read another word of it. im sure this is just a me issue and that this just wasn't my taste. i tend to prefer high stakes fantasy novels over cosy fantasy, so this was obviously just a me issue. but the M!mc was so insufferable he pissed me off, he neglected his dragon no fucking wonder it didn't like you? i just couldn't force myself to read anymore 💔 i'm sure the author is lovely and i'm sorry 🙏
