I love Aiden but why does everything have to have spice in it 😭😭😭😭😭
lighthearted

I was in the mood for a simple, short cafe story. Yes, I have another book in the exact same genre next to me and was actually going to read that one first, but I suddenly felt like reading Baby Dragon Coziness?
It's cute, cozy, hallmarks of baby dragons. Exactly what you'd expect when you see the cover!
Is everything well-thought-out, financially, socially, or safety-wise? ABSOLUTELY NOT. But I wasn't expecting that here either. Just a short, stereotypically trope-filled, simple cozy-I'm-snuggling-in-my-chair-like-a-burrito story.

To read this as intended - as a cosy fantasy - it is a lovely book filled with baby dragons, a slow burn romance and a couple of sweet background characters. It is an easy, low stakes read that you can fly through.

The book, however, brings up a fair few heavy topics that it then tries to fit into the low stakes. This can be done really well and with the parallel storylines of loss/grief for the two main characters the author achieves this seamlessly. However, the repeated instances of racism and othering dont feel as well portrayed, they sit like a very important addition into a book that doesn't take the space to have more than one character even acknowledge them which was very frustrating.

I also couldn't quite decide what the world building was intended to be - it seems to be firmly based in the real world for the most part, with characters actively indicating that they know they live in a place with mythical creatures.

And my god, that slowest of slow burns.

That said, I  genuinely enjoyed the characters and for 3/4s of the book i raced through it, there was just a bit in the middle that lost me. I will absolutely be carrying on with the series.

DID NOT FINISH: 21%

The writing quality felt unrefined and overly repetitive in a way that distracted from my enjoyment of the characters and plot. I really wanted to love this, too.
