Quick, easy, gripping read. I finished this in two days.
I think the experimentation with style was awesome. Having the entire plot take place in one night is a cool way to keep you hooked. Was I always a big fan of being called out as a camera? No. But I appreciate the uniqueness of it, and I think it came from a place of genuine curiosity for the author (though this is my first Murakami read!).
The characters in this book feel like real individuals. I usually have at least one character in books that switch perspective like this that I dread going back too. Even if a character was clearly evil in After Dark, I found myself excited to see more from them.
Oh and something about the way Murakami writes about Autumn REALLY hits.
All of that to say: right up my alley, I enjoyed the character focus and decision to keep everything to one night, I was hooked, but there were a few things that were a little funky (perspective, for example). I’m excited to read more Murakami!
Tough star rating decision, but I’m going with 4.25 for now.

Not my kind of book, it was weird and eerie? A little strange and difficult to follow.
