The plot of this book is so random and unpredictable, and while reading it I never knew what was going to happen next. But, that's kind of the beauty of it.

The writing style is very different from the more western writing styles that I’m used to. The plot is the main focus of the story, rather than the characters, most of which are one-dimensional and lacking in my opinion. But, strangely, their lack of characterization has little effect on the overall plot of the story.

Anyway, 4/5 stars. If you want an unhinged and unpredictable book about a guy who's slowly dying and getting into strange predicaments with the rival mushroom company and some others, this is it. You'll also learn a bit about the mushroom business, which is a nice bonus.

I was very lucky to hear Antti Tuomainen read and talk about The Man Who Died novel at the Edinburgh Book Festival earlier this year. When I was asked if I would like to be on the blog tour I jumped at the chance.

The Man Who Died was such a refreshing and unique read. I was hooked from start to finish. Jaako Kaunismaa is now on my top ten list of memorable characters. I don’t do spoilers so it’s difficult to talk about the plot. A modern day, ‘Who done it?’ with humorous plot twists in every chapter. The tone and pace of the writing added to my reading experience. Often when I finished a chapter I was overcome with different questions and thoughts. Which for me is a sign of a great read, when I am so immersed in the story.

The book cover is gorgeous, with the crisp white and luminous green it really pops. The Man Who Died will be on your favourite reads of 2017. I know that I will re-read it again and for sure I will experience it differently each time as the writing is so exquisite and noteworthy.

Antti Tuomainen has the knack of putting you smack bang into the story and you buckle up and go on the wild ride with murder, mushrooms and so much more!

Jaakko Kaunismaa: CEO of mushroom business. After finding out he is dying, he walked in on his wife cheating on him with one of his employees. Jaakko suspects his wife, Taina, she is poisoning him and decides to embark on an investigation to discover the truth. I often found myself chuckling to Jaakko's dark sense of humor.

The other characters were pretty boring for me and lacked personality. This story focused more on plot than characters, which is often the case for thrillers. I couldn't put it down and read it quickly. I just HAD to know if his wife was trying to kill him, what the guys from the new mushroom company were up to, and if the cop would figure out what Jaakko's been up to.

The Man Who Died is a dark, odd, funny thriller about a quirky mushroom business man.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest, unbiased opinion. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley, for allowing me to review.
