This book is a perfect example of how exemplarily Terry Pratchett writes people. One of my favorite things about his books is that his characters feel real and tangible, full of mistakes and bad choices and humanity. The protagonists of this book are largely a group of the most miserable, wretched men one could write about--the absolute dregs of society who all ended up in one of the most loathe-some positions possible, and still they are written as people, who may or may not have ended up where they are of their own volition but still are here all the same and doing their damndest to make the best of things. I adore these characters so much and I love seeing them grow and change when faced with new situations.

3.5 Definitely a 2nd read. Interesting and lots of good puns and wordplay. Dragons, city watch and an operatic-style lady. Fun.

Ein sprachliches Schmankerl, wie immer von Terry Pratchett. Inhaltlich ein bisschen langatmig, aber man schaffts schon durch. Außerdem gibt es Drachen! Ein ganz großes Plus. Gegen Ende nimmt die Geschichte dann ordentlich Fahrt auf und überrascht mit sehr unerwarteten Plottwists!
