I loved every second of reading this book. I'm not sure I will be able to explain exactly why, but yes, this might be my favorite Discworld book thus far. I suspect I could spend an eternity on the streets of Ankh-Morpork and never get bored. The cast of characters were all amazing. I hope they return in future installments, and I believe at least some of them do.
Spoiler I also hope Cpt. Vimes and Lady Ramkin stand the test of time, as I wanted them to get together from the first inklings of something brewing between them, and I was incredibly gratified that indeed it did happen.
I laughed out loud several times throughout my read, and increasingly so towards the end as situations developed and stakes elevated and etc. The dedication before the book even begins sets the tone, and the remainder of the reading experience is just a wild romping adventure.

It's a pretty interesting book. It's intentionally humorous and doesn't take itself seriously at all. Has a fun, light plot, where you know everything will work out, but are interested in staying along for the ride to find out how. It's peppered with occasional deeper bits of philosophy and introspection, and has a nicely varied vocabulary. The style of writing took me maybe 20 pages to really get immersed in, but ultimately it became natural and I enjoyed it. It relies very strongly on the social and political dynamics of the specific city that it is based in, and the unique personalities of its inhabitants, in order to drive the story forward. Overall, I enjoyed reading it, but it doesn't make my list of strong recommendations, and I wouldn't consider reading it a second time. I have this vague feeling that the author wasn't making full use of the characters, but this could very well be because it is book 1 of an 8 book series. It has a very clear and satisfying story arc, with an ending that nicely concludes the plot while still allowing more to be written

it's 12 on the clock and all is well

this is, earnestly, the funniest book I've ever read. there's a bit at the end which I won't spoil but it genuinely had me laughing so hard I had to put the book face down on my desk to wipe away the tears in my eyes.

it's so funny you'd be forgiven for missing the insane levels of political commentary and its themes of humanity

it's a one in a million chance, but it just might work
