Great fun. Dragons and secret societies and crime solving. Plus some found family vibes which I always love. Clever and funny as always. I get why this is a lot of people's favorite but I think it's still Wyrd Sisters for me.

This is the book where the Discworld starts to feel right. It's Ankh Morpork, the Patrician is almost fully developed, and the best characters in the series are finally introduced - The Watch!

(i dracs!!!)

I'm sure that if I had picked up this book in a less busy and stressful time in my life I would have enjoyed it a lot more. Unfortunately, because my cerebral capacity is somewhat depteled in these current times, I could not fully engage with this book despite being able to recognize how fun and thoughtful it is. As such, 3.75 "Oooook"s out of 5 IBS swamp dragons, is where this reading experience is at.

I'm just gonna start off with why it didn't full work for me, aside from the real-life ball-and-chain on my brain. This is such a small and should be meaningless thing, but, the lack of chapters man. I just... 🫠 Due to the lack of visible structure I felt lost a lot of the time because the page breaks will pick up at a random (it's not random, it's very planned and thought out, but I is low IQ lately) point in time with very little context. Like sometimes it's just in the middle of a conversation between characters you haven't seen yet. I just got lost a lot.

The last thing is something that both worked and didn't work. The humor. HOLD ON! If any of you know me, you know I love humor in my books, and I did very much enjoy it in this book! I just think sometimes it went over my head and I didn't quite understand what was happening. Also I do think the humor sometimes overpowered the more meaningful moments that could have had a bit more depth.

Let's end on a high note! What I liked! So many interesting original concepts and ideas. You know how people often say, "It was so original!" Well, look no further. And I mean, I expected nothing less from absurdist fantasy. Each character felt very individual and unique. The humor was witty and fun. And finally, there were some very deep and meaningful "discussion points," I guess we could call them, that were sprinkled in that brought a nice layer to the story.
