Pratchett is so much better when he’s not being held back by Gaimann

I do love Discworld novels, and this one was no exception. I love Carrot; he's adorable. I've read other books with him in it; I don't think I realized before how big he is LOL. Anyway, I greatly enjoyed this book. GNU Terry Pratchett.
Pokes fun at fantasy tropes with a brand of silly British humor that is not nearly as amusing / entertaining to me as it is must be to the author (and others). As a result, wasn’t invested and sped read / skimmed a bunch of it. (Can’t imagine not doing that considering the mass market edition of this was 400 pages.)
I do like the concept here of focusing on the bumbling men of a city’s night’s watch rather than the more traditional “heroes”, and appreciate Carrot’s earnestness upending the typical order of things, but when a book is trying really hard to be funny and it’s not connecting, the experience can be a slog.
