Straż! Straż!

Terry Pratchett

4.25 AVERAGE

A delight to read and wildly imaginative and funny, as is everything in Ankh-morpok. This follows the rise of the Night Watch under Commander Vimes and his odd crew as they confront dragons and dragon ladies and the impending destruction of the Patrician's rule.

What a romp! Rooting desperately for Vimes and Lady Ramkin.

This is quite a goofy, absurd romp. Someone compared it to Monty Python and I quite agree. I appreciate Pratchett's use of word play, and found the story to be entertaining.

However...there do seem to be jumps/assumptions about what the audience will know (which I find interesting given that this is recommended as a place to start Discworld). Additionally, it takes 100pgs for a woman to actually appear. You can count the number of women who speak on 1 hand (possibly just all of the ones who appear, in general).
