Reread this, for the who knows how many timeth. Still marvelous. And it's right where he hit his stride so I find it has held up in ways some of the others haven't -- the characters are themselves, in a way that Granny, say, isn't quite in Wyrd Sisters.

2021: watched the first 15 minutes of the appallingly terrible BBC “adaptation” and then had to reread this just to get the bad taste out of my brain.

So odd but so comforting and Carrot was adorable. Excited to read the rest of the discworld series!

One of the most wonderful books I've read.

Here be dragons. Or, maybe it's over there? The city of Ankh-Morpork has a dragon problem. It seems like the only ones who have any chance of rectifying the situation is the hapless City Watch, led by the grizzled and drunken Captain Vimes. We're introduced to a variety of characters, from the eager and rigorous new City Watch recruit, Carrot, to the large and fiery dragon keeper, Lady Ramkin. How did this threat emerge? How did the citizens of Ankh-Morpork react? I guess you'll have to read to find out.

Personally, I found this book wasn't quite as witty as some of the previous installments, but there was still plenty of laughs. I can see why people say this book is a good place to enter Discworld, but I am glad I started from the beginning so I can watch it grow in Pratchett's imagination. I'm not sure why this book took me so long to finish, but I'm still looking forward to the next one.
